Hardware - Maxtor Basic external hard drive issue... firehydra2k - 16.06.2006, 04:58 Uhr Titel: Maxtor Basic external hard drive issue...
I just bought a 200 gig HD, and when I cracked it open, the whole thing was formatted as an ntfs. I tried to convert it to FAT32 using this liveCD and Windows, but with no success.
Does anyone have an idea on how to convert an external HD from a NTFS to an FAT32 and still maintain the majority of the space (FAT32 can only have 2 gigs of space for some odd reason...)

Use Hiren's BootCD 8.1 and use Paragon Partition Manager or any of the other partiton managers

NTFS can't be converted to FAT32! Hint came from M$.
Large partition support for FAT32, limit is with NT 32GB, with linux up to max HD-size.
@firehydra2k take a look at the Hd, there is a Jumper which told the PC to limit the HD-Size to 2/32GB. This is used for some old Reasons and with the Year2004 Mainboards this Jumper can be removed.

Hiren's BootCD 8.1 DOES IT and I have used it (7.9 version) well over 1000 times over the years to do this task, David's Ultimate Boot CD 2.0 (4in1) will also do the trick.
