dist-upgraded a few days ago (problem was there before and after...)
Small (but annoying) mousepad problem: too sensitize to "tapping"...
Unabe to disable tapping using tpconfig/ksynaptics....

No Synaptics error messages in logs..but:

# synclient -l
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

but SHMConfig is enabled in Xorg.conf and driver loaded...

with every Dist-upgrade you have to configure the mousepd again.

I did everything I knew (= not much) to configure the touchpad (ksynaptics, tpconfig, look at Xorg.conf, synclient...) but none of that has any effect.

open the console and run synaptics. Than follow the instructions the menu presents. You must do it for all users because of none central synaptics rc-file.

Thank you for the reply.

As I was saying: I have run ksynatics. I have also tried "tpconfig" and synclient:

synclient -h:
Can't access shared memory area. SHMconfig disabled?

Note that SHMconfig is "on" in Xorg.conf and X xerver was restarted....

than please reinstall qsynaptics and remove tpconfig. this is used by IBM/Lenevo and Toshiba Labtops.

be carefull qsynaptic is a pakeagemanager while qsynaptics is what you need reinstalled.

hummm,

I could try to reinstall Ksynaptics(*)... though I thought I did that too. BTW, this is an "ALPS Glidepoint" device. I thought that both Synatics and ALPS device drivers where in the new kernel (do I need to do anything to make sure the right one is loaded?) I'll report on the re-install.

(*) Qsynaptics complains that the synaptics drivers need to be installed. It also requests that "X shared memory be enabled in XF86Config"....

Ok, I did
apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, ksynaptics, tpconfig
and
apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, ksynaptics

Then ran ksynaptics : unable to disable tapping, and:
synclient -h
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

# grep SHMConfig /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Option "SHMConfig" "on"

Thank your for your attention.

Thank you S.

(0)Identiy device in /proc/bus/input/devices
if ALPS:
(1)Ksynaptics is useless for ALPS
(2)Qsynaptics works, but user need to turn "on" "SHMConfig" in the "ALPS TouchPad" "InputDevice" Section of Xorg.conf
(2)disbaled tapping with 'Option "ClickTime" "0"'

...nice not to have to pussyfoot around the mousepad Winken
