I tried a dist-ugrade with "KUGUI" and I could not restart KDM even with "the fix."
I ended up reinstalling to HD and I am now inclined to stay at the 05-04 level. Is
there a safe way to upgrade ? ( I am more interested in stability than "bleeding edge") |

I had a problem with KUGUI on one occasion so I now :
Ctl-Alt-F1
login as root
init 3
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
fix-fonts
reboot
The reboot is precautionary as I have had the odd 'messy' shutdown.
I've fully dist-upgraded 2005-04 on a daily basis with only a few issues along the way, all fixed via the forum or IRC without a reinstall.
I'd start at Easter-RC4 if I were starting today though.

Thank you for the reply drb,
Couldn't upgrade be a bit trickier with amd64? Since there was no amd64 build in
the Esater RC, I have no other starting point ... (or do I have it all wrong, which
would not surprise me ) |
