          | Haven't tested RC4 yet, but in RC3 on a Dell cpi a366xt laptop, after a while it would hang on shutdown for a very long time trying to stop the portmap daemon. I confirmed that doing an "/etc/init.d/portmap stop" on the cli would hang for a long while as well. I finally temporarily removed the portmap package to work around this. Haven't tried reinstalling it. I was also getting a shorter hang on startup (nfs?) that disappeared once I remove portmap. Any ideas what might cause this? This was on a pretty virgin install of 2006-01-RC3, before and after an apt-get dist-upgrade. What is portmap used for besides NFS? |
