I have installed firefox using a bz2 source, and for some reason it doesnt work.
The error im getting is:
(firefox-bin:10600): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
Ive tried a bunch of fixes and to no avail i havent been lucky. Can someone recommend a fix or possibly recommend another browser. Iceweasel just dosent seem to cut it.
Im running the latest Kanotix on an ibm thinkpad t23.

Just guessing:
Did you install FF as root?
Using a console where you switched to root?
I usually get this message when I opened a root console and try to start a GUI program from there.
Your desktop runs in your user environment, so even root is not allowed to access it without permission.
Just as a test: open a user shell and enter "xhost +". Be careful: this allows everyone to access your desktop.
Does FF start then?
