          | Hello....my wife gave me the news that we will be GETTING DSL in place of our CABLE INTERNET connection. Crossing my fingers I am hoping I won't be in for any UNFORTUNATE SURPRISES with my system. Right now we have a cable internet connection. The cable modem is connected (wired) to my LINKSYS router and I have both my wife's and my computer working from router. As far as I know, DSL should work the same as cable when I switch out modems. But I am here asking for info on what I should expect with KANOTIX. Since the network cables and cards will still be used, do I have to set up anything for DSL? I have never used DSL before and not sure how Kanotix will deal with it. I have a WIRED system, and it has worked flawlessly with Winxp/Kanotix for 3 years. I am assuming, and this is just a guess, that the signal coming in from phone line is converted into a usable signal when it gets to the DSL modem, then that signal is able to use the network I am currently using. Any advice????? |

          | I have had SBC Yahoo DSL (now AT&T) since September 2004. No problems. Just plugged it in. Occasionally (more often now maybe because more of the neighbors have DSL) speeds drop -- usually they pick up again if I turn the modem and router off and then on again. Much less expensive than cable and probably just as good
